The armour plate through which the driver looks and through which the hull machine gun protrudes is around 102mm thick, and is laid back at an angle of about 9 degrees. It gained a reputation for being a fearsome tank. This piqued my interest, so I did a bit of digging to find out more and then did a few sums too, and the stuff below shows what I came up with.Įverybody knows that the German Tiger tank was a big scary machine that was very well protected and very well armed. ![]() ![]() This post started after I’d read an article on sloping armour, which brought up comparing frontal armour from the Sherman with the Tiger. ![]() The Sherman tank so far has featured in all my posts to date, I’m not a particular fan of the M4 but I am increasingly of the opinion that it is a much maligned tank.
